Exploring Ireland Before the Wedding

Making a holiday out of your trip? We love that! Ireland has so much to offer, and we encourage you to explore a little before joining us in the countryside.

If you're flying into Shannon, consider heading to Galway, a lively coastal city accessible by bus from the airport. With its colorful streets, traditional Irish music, fantastic pubs, and incredible food, it's a wonderful introduction to Ireland. It's also a great jumping-off point for exploring Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher, and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Flying into Cork? Spend a few days exploring Cork City or Kinsale, a picturesque harbor town known for its seafood, colorful buildings, and charming pubs.

If you're arriving in Dublin, consider enjoying a few days in the capital before making your way west. From historic landmarks and traditional music to great restaurants and lively neighborhoods, there's plenty to see and do.

A little travel tip: Ireland's trains and buses are great for getting between major cities, but reaching smaller countryside destinations like Cloughjordan may require a combination of public transportation and taxis. If you're hoping to explore smaller towns, coastal villages, and the countryside, renting a car is worth considering.

However you choose to get here, we can't wait to welcome you to Ireland!

Explore Tipperary & Beyond

While you're here, we hope you'll take some time to explore the beautiful Irish countryside! Cloughjordan is tucked away in the heart of County Tipperary, surrounded by charming villages, medieval castles, scenic lakes, and, of course, plenty of cozy Irish pubs.

Whether you're up for an adventure or just fancy a leisurely pint, here are a few places worth exploring:

Nenagh – A charming medieval market town just 15 minutes from Cloughjordan House. Explore the historic Nenagh Castle, browse the local shops, and settle into a cozy pub for a pint.

Dromineer & Lough Derg – A beautiful lakeside escape with sailboats, walking trails, and stunning scenery. Perfect for an afternoon by the water.

Garrykennedy – A picturesque little harbour village on Lough Derg. Take a stroll along the lake and stop into Larkin's, a traditional thatched pub, for some good food and Irish hospitality.

Birr Castle & Gardens – A beautiful historic estate with magnificent gardens, woodland walks, and plenty of history. A lovely way to spend an afternoon.

The Silvermines Mountains – For those who love the outdoors, enjoy a walk or hike through the rolling hills and forests of the Tipperary countryside.

A Little Further Afield:

Rock of Cashel – One of Ireland's most spectacular historic landmarks! Perched dramatically on a limestone hill, this collection of medieval buildings includes a cathedral, round tower, and ancient chapel. With sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, it's a must-see for history lovers and anyone hoping to experience a little Irish magic.

Killaloe & Ballina – These two picturesque sister towns sit across the River Shannon from one another, connected by a historic bridge. Enjoy a stroll along the waterfront, explore charming shops and cafés, or settle into a riverside pub for a leisurely lunch. With beautiful views of Lough Derg and opportunities for boating and outdoor adventures, they're a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.

If you're staying at Abbey Court, the front desk can help arrange transportation to the above Tipperary sites.

We encourage you to slow down, take the scenic route, stop into a pub you stumble across, and enjoy a little of the Irish countryside that we love so much!
